BA #6 - Stories from Pictures

Open the URL I have posted on your blog. Look at the picture. It is a famous painting from an American or European artist.

Examine the scene in the painting and write a short, creative story about what took place before the scene and what may happen after.

Don't forget to include a picture of the painting in your blog post as well as the URL for the painting.

Here are links to all the pictures. You can see all these paintings in real-life when you visit the Art Institute (artic.edu) in Chicago. It is one of the greatest art museums in the world!

For this blog activity, you need to post a critique (your opinion of your favourite film or song).

Follow these steps:
1. Think about your favourite film or song
2. Find a clip from youtube.com that features your favourite film or song.
3. Post the clip to your blog (copy the information from Embed box and paste directly into blog post).
4. Then, critique your favourite film following these questions:

a. Give a brief description of the film/song (summary).
b. When did you first watch/listen to this film/song?
c. Where were you when you first watched/listened to the film/song?
d. How does the film/song make you feel?
e. Why is this your favourite film/song?
f. What is your favourite part/aspect of this film/song?
g. Would you recommend this film/song to a friend? Why?

For example:

Kristina's Favourite TV Show: The Simpsons

My favourite TV show is the Simpsons. When I was a child, my parents would not let my sister and I watch this TV show. But when we visited my Grandparents, my Grandpa would let us watch it. This clip is from the episode entitlted "2 Dozen and 1 Greyhounds". In this episode, Mr. Burns (the evil man) steals the Simpsons' greyhound puppies and wants to make a suit out of their skins. This episode is a parody of the movie "101 Dalmations" and the song itself, "See My Vest" is a parody of a song from the movie "Beauty and Beast" - "Be our Guest".

Here is the original song:

I don't remember exactly when and where I watched this episode for the first time. It may have been at my Grandparents' house or at a friend's house. But my sister and I really enjoy this episode. We like this episode because the song is silly, but very clever. It makes us laugh and we know all the words to it and like to sing along. This song is my favourite from the Simpsons because it is so catchy! My favourite part is when he puts on his hat made from a poodle's head. It's so ridiculous!

I would recommend the Simpsons to everybody! The show is a very good allegory for Americans and life in America. There are many issues that the show discusses in a humerous way, which makes it very interesting to watch. I also like that you have to know a lot about popular culture to get the references made in the show. Even if you don't know a lot about popular culture you will still be entertained!

Your short story should contain the following elements:

Who: Your friend
What: Went somewhere, then something happened
Where: In a city in America
When: Within the past week
Why: Because they thought that they would get to meet their favourite celebrity
How: You decide!

Can can write your story in Word, then cut and paste it into this Newspaper Headline Creator:

When you have created your newspaper headline, copy and paste your newspaper into your blog.

Good luck!
